Binding a Positive Relationship Between the U.S. and China

Posted on Nov 14, 2018

The relationship between the United States and China has recently been on fairly shaky grounds. Both countries are implementing punitive tariffs in order to punish the other side as well as taking more aggressive positions. It is important to bind the relationship between the United States and China in a variety of different ways. Here are some of the key considerations when binding their relationship together in positive ways.

Creating a Trade Agreement Between the United States and China

One of the most positive ways to bind the United States and China is with a trade agreement between the two sides which helps to address the problems surrounding the overall trade imbalance between the two sides. A trade agreement will formalize the trade between the United States and China and set thresholds and limits between the two sides. In addition, it will help to work through the major sore points between the two nations. Examples of sore points is state sponsorship and supports for companies by China in certain industries and intellectual property theft, as well as punitive tariffs by the United States and unfair trade practices. By addressing these issues and working through them by formalizing them in a trade agreement that is mutually agreed on which highlights solutions for these problems. This is a view supported by the China-United States Exchange Foundation.

Entering into a Joint Project and Research

Working together in a joint research project can help to bind the two nations together. There is an excellent opportunity for the United States and China to develop a more positive relationship between each other by working on joint projects that build trust and cooperation. Some examples of ways that the two countries can build positive relationships is with joint research projects that help to uncover new or more efficient forms of pollution controls and renewable energy, global programs on poverty, and joint work on the Internal Space Station. By creating these collaborative projects and larger scale research, the United States and China can help to foster more concrete relations.

Sharing Technologies and Solutions

Globalization allows different nations to benefit off of their competitive advantages. By sharing some of these technologies and solutions to problems that both nations are facing, China and the United States can build mutual respect and cooperation and help to bind their relationship further. Negotiation of critical technologies to share and disperse is important and helps to create trust that can further the growth and development of these nations.U.S. and China: A Light at the End of the Tunnel
